The Saenger Theatre is New Orleans' grand 1920s movie palace, restored and now home to touring Broadway productions, concerts and comedy. It stands on Canal Street at North Rampart, where the French Quarter meets the Central Business District. Canal Street carries streetcars down its center, buses along its curbs and a good deal of hotel traffic, and the Rampart Street streetcar crosses right at the theater. On a sold-out night the block in front of the Saenger is busy from an hour before the show. The chauffeur approaches from whichever side is flowing and lets you out at the entrance, which is especially welcome in summer heat, in rain or in formal shoes.
Nearby garages and surface lots serve the theater, the Joy Theater across the street and the surrounding hotels, and they fill and empty all at once. With a car service there is no ramp to queue on afterwards.
